The contest 'POYi Latin America', held in Quito, Ecuador this year, warded photojournalist David Estrada Larrañeta by the series 'A fragile Treasure Amazon' which documents the current daily life in the imposing jungle and realices the indigenous cultural wealth and the western culture that persists in this, the green lung of the world.

The reportage achieved an honorable mention for excellence in the category Avanti Sustainable Development that was held 14 to 18 March 2011. This was the first version of the POYi in Latin America and was organized by the largest network of photojournalists in the continent, NuestraMirada.org. Works of photographers from twelve different countries were awarded in eighteen categories.

David Estrada's photographs were the product of the workshop held in the Colombian Amazon with the master Stephen Ferry, sponsored by the Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI), created and directed by the Nobel in Literature Gabriel García Márquez. The images show, in addition to the cultural mix, the latent fragility in this particular area of the world, not only for its biodiversity, but by the presence of illegal groups, as well as new religious “colonizers” and, of course, the environmental risks of human "developments" .
